2025年，在鹿儿岛县与冲绳县，搭载着配备手术室的特种车辆的渡轮已开始进行试运行。赴任的喜多见与夏梅在离岛从事医疗工作。某日，鹿儿岛县的诹访之濑岛发生火山喷发，为营救岛民，他们毅然挑战这项九死一生的任务。
