　　拉娅（卢蒂娜·卫斯理 Rutina Wesley 饰）的姐姐是个无可救药的毒虫，她挪用了拉娅的学费购买毒品，并最终死于吸毒过量。经历了这一番变故，再也无法承担私立学校高昂学费的拉娅只能选择离开，她回到了老家，回到了位于多伦多黑人社区的公立学校。
