　　片警胡小玲（陈小艺 饰）与丈夫铁路干警江建平（张嘉译 饰）因生活缺乏激情协议离婚。胡小玲五年前抓捕的经济罪犯管军（孙红雷 饰）出狱后门庭冷落，亲朋背离。胡小玲担心管军再入歧途，让婆婆江大妈（张少华 饰）将房子租给管军，结果离婚的江建平只好另行租房，入住单身母亲郭芳（程愫 饰）家。 江大妈极力撮合胡小玲与江建平复婚，却发现在胡小玲与管军的频繁接触中，二人越走越近，终于结婚。婚后不久，管军的母亲（高秀敏 饰）从东北来探亲，家中五口人矛盾不断。而管军的狱友老虎（王双宝 饰）即将出狱，托管军照顾的女友妮可（黄曼 饰）却与侵吞管军公司的道上人物纠缠不清。与此同时，江建平与郭芳的关系也因郭芳前夫的介入出现危机，两个新家庭面临的挑战一个接着一个……

　　电影《七十二家房客》轰动一时，著名粤剧演员文觉非在电影里扮演的大反派“太子炳”深入民心，其余的经典角色如“三六九”等也脍炙人口，里面的一些台词更成为广东地区的流行俗语。而周星驰也在他的作品《功夫》里对《七十二家房客》的主场景和主要角色进行了艺术加工，向这部经典影片致敬。
　　新改编的《七十二家房客》主要讲述解放前40年代里广州西关一栋三层楼的大杂院里，“包租公”太子炳、“包租婆”八姑和七十多家房客交织所发生的许多妙趣横生、让人忍俊不禁又发人深省的故事。

　　拉瓦的母亲把他送到海边和他年轻的叔叔住在一起，他马上开始工作。一天，他发现一个人被冲上了岸。在医院里，Wut医生诊断出这个人患有健忘症，他的叔叔自愿将Lava作为他的看护人。熔岩命名他为波，并重新分配他所有的职责给陌生人。Wave对体力劳动的挑剔和无能令人惊讶，暗示着它过去的骄纵。
　　Lava's mother sends him to live with his young uncle by the beach and he's immediately put to work. One day, he finds a man washed up on the shore. At the hospital, Dr. Wut diagnoses the man with amnesia and his uncle volunteers Lava as his caretaker. Lava names him Wave and reassigns all his duties to the stranger. Wave is surprisingly fussy and inept at manual labor, hinting at a pampered past.

Soames Forsyte, a formidable London solicitor and a key figure in the influential family, accustomed to securing his desires, becomes fixated on marrying the beautiful but indifferent Irene. Despite her initial resistance and passion for art and beauty, Irene succumbs to a life of affluence with Soames but remains adamant about not becoming his possession. As the absence of love becomes apparent and Irene falls for a young architect, Soames, determined to assert control, resorts to coercive measures he couldn’t buy with wealth alone.
