日本と中国の市場に向けた本作は1話1日で49日間を描く物語。裕福でイケメンの若き覆面作家・経一は、同棲している婚約者の佳望が海外出張先の中国から帰って来る48日後に婚姻届けを提出する約束をしていた。しかし佳望が留守中に彼はひょんなことから個性的な3人の女性とルームシェアすることに。戸惑いながらも、佳望にバレないよう必死に隠蔽工作をする経一。ところがサプライズと称して当初の予定より早く佳望が帰って来てしまう。
片警胡小玲（陈小艺 饰）与丈夫铁路干警江建平（张嘉译 饰）因生活缺乏激情协议离婚。胡小玲五年前抓捕的经济罪犯管军（孙红雷 饰）出狱后门庭冷落，亲朋背离。胡小玲担心管军再入歧途，让婆婆江大妈（张少华 饰）将房子租给管军，结果离婚的江建平只好另行租房，入住单身母亲郭芳（程愫 饰）家。 江大妈极力撮合胡小玲与江建平复婚，却发现在胡小玲与管军的频繁接触中，二人越走越近，终于结婚。婚后不久，管军的母亲（高秀敏 饰）从东北来探亲，家中五口人矛盾不断。而管军的狱友老虎（王双宝 饰）即将出狱，托管军照顾的女友妮可（黄曼 饰）却与侵吞管军公司的道上人物纠缠不清。与此同时，江建平与郭芳的关系也因郭芳前夫的介入出现危机，两个新家庭面临的挑战一个接着一个……
