《东北一家人》开播后红遍了大江南北，讲述的是东北一个普通人家的故事。在沈阳生活着这么一家有趣的人，老爸牛大爷（李琦 饰）退休前曾是劳模，退休后也不闲着，整体好管闲事；儿子牛小伟原先也在牛大爷的工厂里当工人，当时正值90年代国企改革，小伟成了下岗工人，下岗后的他不闲着，下海在自家的小区附近开起了小饭馆；女儿职中毕业了一时还没找到工作。这么一家人在街坊街里闹了不少笑话，他们生活的点点滴滴成了人们茶余饭后津津乐道的趣闻。
该剧讲述1948年至1980年发生在淮河岸边、念恩桥两岸的感人故事。剧中，刘涛饰演的男主角“耿长和”是解放军猛虎团红三连的连长，在战争年代，面对炸毁念恩桥的军事命令，却因考虑到两岸劳苦人民生息问题而拒绝服从上级安排，从而导致经历了一系列的艰难坎坷。
