马可（贝诺特·波尔沃尔德 Benoît Poelvoorde 饰）在一次出差时因为误了火车而邂逅了名为西尔维（夏洛特·甘斯布 Charlotte Gainsbourg 饰）的美丽女子，两人相见恨晚，在临别之际，他们约定日后在巴黎见面，可是两人既没有交换电话亦没有留下姓名，这段缘分在阴差阳错之下被尘封在了时间的记忆之中。

　　拍卖会上，文森特·凡高（蒂姆·罗斯 Tim Roth 饰）的名作《向日葵》的标价逐渐增高，最后固定在一个天文数字上。在世人热烈追捧凡高的艺术时，有谁会想到提奥（保罗·里斯 Paul Rhys 饰）这样一个名字呢?本片讲述了凡高与他的弟弟提奥之间的故事。凡高一生为贫穷所困，画入心魔的他为了坚持自己的艺术，不得不靠着弟弟提奥的救济。在凡高看来，他只能把自己献给画布和色彩，其它的生活烦扰应该由弟弟来解决，因为他把自己的作品全部给了提奥。提奥热爱和尊敬哥哥的艺术，虽然自己也并不是很富裕，但是他心甘情愿地去支援哥哥，在凡高每次遇到经济问题，甚至情感问题，他都会及时给予无私的帮助。可以说，没有提奥，这世上根本也不会有凡高。凡高生前只卖出过一副画，他死于对绘画的癫狂，对提奥的愧疚。凡高自杀后，伤心绝望的提奥很快也撒手人寰。兄弟俩都不曾有机会来享受天价凡高艺术所带来的成就，只能留待世人传颂。

　　安杰伊瓦杰达导演的法语片，于佩尔在当中饰演一配角（沙托夫之妻），改编自陀思妥耶夫斯基同名小说。虽然由于片长的限制删改不少，但仍不失为一部极佳的改编电影。

　　The film (and the acting) is superbly done, but the story is intense. I like it for its' dark, thick, "Cul du Sac" psychology but it is certainly not for everyone for that very reason. Set in isolated, rural France makes this film all the more desperate.
　　The film is about strenuous relationships, loyalty - and despair. It is about accepting hardships without really understanding them. It is also about pity and how it is to be distinguished from love and admiration. I've seen many French films with the same intensity and I'm guessing that it will be mostly the French who will enjoy this film.
　　The acting is superb in this film – if you're in the right state of mind and don't loose your concentration. Jean-François Stevenin ALWAYS impresses me. He doesn't disappoint me here either. For general audiences, however, I'd recommend his performance in "Deux Lions au Soleil" which is much more easily palatable than "Peux de Vaches".
　　Despite the fact that I like "Peux de Vaches", I have difficulties recommending it to anyone other than French audiences and perhaps someone with a morose demeanor.

　　Charlie, a young aristocrat in turn of the century England, meets a boy named Frank on the road to Portsmouth. What Charlie doesn't realize is that Frank is actually Frances, who's donned a disguise to escape working at a brothel. Charlie takes Frank/Frances into his home, and when he discovers her true identity, the two become lovers. He sends her to London to be trained by his mistress in the art of sex, but she learns much more about her identity as a woman. Before the opening credits, explicitly on-screen it reads: "Based on the famous Victorian erotic novel by an anonymous writer".
