He also experiences scary nightmares of an evil devil cult. Plus a couple of close friends of the family meet brutal untimely ends. Could it be mysterious new housekeeper Darminah who's behind the freaky and troubling events that have befallen Tommy and his family?
　　Director Sisworo Gautama Putra does an expert job of ably creating and sustaining a powerfully eerie and unnerving otherworldly atmosphere. Moreover, Putra does a totally convincing job of evoking a thoroughly believable mundane everyday reality that's ripped asunder by bizarre and inexplicable supernatural phenomenon. Better still, Putra keeps the pace slow, yet steady throughout, uses violence in a shocking, but restrained manner and gradually builds up a tremendous amount of harrowing tension before pulling out all the stops with a genuinely terrifying conclusion in which all hell quite literally breaks lose. This film even offers a rich, colorful and illuminating depiction of a fascinatingly different culture and its strongly held religious beliefs. An extremely solid and satisfying foreign fright feature.

　　书生陶望三在为亡母守孝的最后一天遇到女鬼，幸得道士全矶子相助才得以保命，并送其一卷可保不受鬼怪侵害的经书。由于旧居损坏，陶望三暂住好友姜部郎的一套据说闹鬼的老宅中，结识了落水身亡的女鬼小谢和为救小谢身亡的秋容与三郎，四人相处愉快，其乐融融……。
　　陶望三欲上京赶考，三郎劝他不要去，因为不仅会徒劳无功，而且还会有牢狱之灾，但他仍执意前往。在京城，他结识了豪爽侠义的同考学子蔡子经和狡猾奸诈、冒充考官外甥到处骗钱的方可为。由于他看穿了方可为的卑劣行径，遭方陷害入狱，小谢秋蓉前去营救。在营救的过程中，秋蓉被掌管阴阳界限的好色的阴阳法王抢去作妾，小谢也被打成重伤。为了救出秋蓉，陶望三请来全矶子相助……。
　　陶望三求全矶子想办法让小谢和秋蓉恢复人身，但全矶子法力有限，只能让一人复活。小谢知道他的为难，黯然退出，秋蓉于是复身在蔡子经亡妹的身体上复活。秋蓉复活后嫁给陶望三，但在成亲之日，阴阳法王却又来作恶……。

　　《鬼妹》虽然继承了《画皮》的恐怖气氛和“聊斋”的故事背景，却喊明了要挑战《画皮》的恐怖尺度。影片讲述了《聊斋》中书生陶望三与两个女鬼之间的一段离奇故事：陶望三在为亡母守孝的最后一天遇到女鬼，幸得道士全矶子相助才得以保命，并送其一卷可保不受鬼怪侵害的经书。由于旧居损坏，陶望三暂住好友姜部郎的一套据说闹鬼的老宅中，结识了落水身亡的女鬼小谢和为救小谢身亡的秋容与三郎，四人相处愉快，其乐融融。

　　You wake up in a shabby hotel room with no idea how you got there. You can’t recall your name. You discover there seem to be other young women in other rooms in the same predicament, though one of them seems to know your name: Anne. After an unpleasant encounter with a rather large cockroach, you have a screaming fit. That’s when the nurses arrive to sedate you. And by the way, when night falls, you’ll need to escape from a killer demon with the bloodied head of a deer.
　　Faces of Anne relies heavily on elements of the slasher film – and in many ways, that’s exactly what it is. But the film is also a puzzle, whose central question – Why is Anne here? – allows us to explore theories as to its solution until the very last moment. Are we inside a video game? An escape room? The mind of someone with multiple personalities? The elaborate and nihilistic fantasy of a deranged serial killer? It’s nothing new to remark that the best horror films are often those that reflect the fears of society; this film builds a clever – and viscerally terrifying – analogy of some of the difficulties faced by today’s young people.
