影片根据“100位新中国成立以来感动中国人物”之一，“最美奋斗者”罗盛教的真实事迹改编。 参与抗美援朝战争的罗盛教是侦察连的一位文书，紧张的战斗期间，他和抗美援朝的各位志愿军战士不仅要面对敌军的猛烈攻击，还要在物资匮乏、环境恶劣的情况下克服种种困难，在修筑机场的过程当中，他和志愿军战士用乐观坚韧的精神一次又一次的抵抗敌军的侵略，为抗美援朝战争做出了巨大贡献。在一次日常训练时，罗盛教发现一名不慎跌入冰窟的孩童，面对-20℃的天气，罗盛教想都没想便跳入了冰窟当中，用自己的全身力气将孩童托起，最终因体力耗尽英勇牺牲。 每一位志愿军战士都在保家卫国的道路上付出了巨大的努力和牺牲，他们的事迹和精神永远激励着每一个人！
